US stocks close higher on dollar fall and economic data

The Dow Jones was down 51.85 points - or 0.29% - at 17,843.37. The S&P 500 was 3.17 points lower at 2,062.78 points but the Nasdaq rose 9.69 to 4,902.98 points.
